OOH LA LA - Lilo

Prunes
OOH LA LA
Lilo
Arranged and Conducted by Nick Perito
Seeco Records CELP 468

Obscure French actress performing a set that features a tune titled "Prunes" that happens to be the only track on the LP that isn't presented as a predictable "show tune" novelty.

From the back cover: Much has been said of Lilo – both in English and French – on both sides of the Atlantic. That she is talented, this is indisputable. That she is a stunning woman, all one has to do is look. But why have so many compliments been paid? Why have so many American audiences applauded for encores?

"Can-Can", the Cole Porter vehicle which brought Lilo stardom in Amercia, was an important milestone in a life devoted to the stage. A performer since the age of nine, Lilo worked to achieve the stature of France's most popular musical comedy star. And being a performer that she is, Lilo proceeded to bring her gallic charm and talents to the night club floor. After breaking theatre records with her performance in "Can-Can", Lilo found it easy to break records with her night club act in Miami, Boston, Kansas City, Chicago, Dallas, Tulsa, New Orleans and New York.

Nick Perito, until revealed years ago, undoubtedly was New York's most sought after accordionist on recording sessions. Today, however, he is one of New York's most sought after arrangers and conductors. His credit include arranging and conducting for such artists as Toni Arden, Jane Morgan and Edyie Gorme, among other.

Brazilian Cocktails - Leo Perrachi

Louis Oliveira Presents
Brazilian Cocktails
Leo Perrachi And His Orchestra
Recorded In Rio De Janeiro
Capitol Records T-10122
1959

Available from the usual digital vendors.

From the back cover: With Brazil's finest pop orchestra of some 48 musicians, he (Perrachi) presents an ingratiating program of listening music with an emphatic, undeniable Brazilian flavor. Produced in the spanking new, ultra-modern Odeon Studios in Rio by Louis Oliverira, Brazilian Cocktails is offered by Capitol as a magnificently musical and authentic long-playing record – one quite unlike any other ever issued in North America by any company.

This is a sweet late 50s light mood album, a concept project of sorts that is more than a theme set that plays on "cocktail names". You will enjoy a sparkling journey in the same vein as some of the orchestrated work Les Baxter was producing at the time.

The last track on side one features a vocal introduction that sounds very much like Yuma Sumac, but there was no way to confirm this.

Little Green Apples - Living Guitars

Little Green Apples
Little Green Apples And Other Country Hits
Living Guitars
Produced by Ethel Gabriel
RCA/Camden CAS-2302
1969

I'll take a chance and say that Al Caiola was the session guitarist on this set.

From the back cover: If you want to hear what's happening these days in the country-music world, you needn't go a step further than this recording of "Little Green Apples" and Other Country Hits by the Living Guitars. Here you'll find those ruralized airs that have a foot in rustic heritage and have risen to the top of the charts.

This set wasn't "happening" in the "country-music world"… but as a light pop curiosity the LP has it's moments.

Little Green Apples
Stand By Your Man

Statler Records #119

I have no idea what the story is behind this budget album. I don't know who all of the people are on the back cover or what they have to do with the recording. There is only one vocal number on the LP, sung by a woman who tries not to overpower the "orchestra". The album is strangely filled, on both sides, with a stock classical number as the last track (Coppelia Czardas).

The instrumentals all sound pretty much the (budget groovy 60s) same.
